Overview

Kangla Pass trek was originally undertaken by the Lahulis(people of Lahul) as the Kangla pass connects Lahaul to Zanskar. The Kangla Pass trek in Ladakh is one of the highest passes on The great himalayan range where you can crossover from Himachal and into Ladakh which is Trans Himalayan. The Kangla Pass trek is one of the most remote and secluded treks of the world and therefore it offers its travellers one of the most scenic and most beautiful views of the Himalayan trails, which includes the lush green meadows with wildflowers, Gaddi shepherds, sparkling streams, pristine glacial lakes. This is not all, once you cross the Kangla, you enter into a whole new world- the kingdom of Zanskar with its monasteries built in the edges of the mountains and people so beautiful inside and out. Miyar Nalla as is often known is a very long valley with the Miyar river running and mingling with the Chandrabhaga river at Udaipur. Miyar valley has its cultured influenced by Hinduism and Buddhism. The valley contains lush green flora and fauna. The trekking route initially is pleasant with flat green lands, which gradually becomes harder as the moraine slants and chilling rivers start to show up. The moraines are vast and endless until the Kangla Pass and beyond. The Kangla glacier is stretched at about 10-13 km on each side of the pass with dangerous crevasses on the top and below. If we are lucky enough we might catch a glimpse of Yak, Marmot or a musk deer. Overall the trek is comprehensive with pleasant memories.

To reach Hampta pass, the nearest airport is in Bhuntar which is 11km from Kullu and 52 km from Manali. You can take a taxi from Bhuntar to Manali which will cost approximately Rs, 1000/-. The airlines that you can take are Indian Airlines, Kingfisher Airlines, Jagson Airlines operating flights from Delhi as well as Chandigarh. To reach Hampta pass by road, you can take an overnight bus from Delhi to Manali or Chandigarh to Manali. Manali is well connected to cities by road. The roads are in good condition but there are sudden landslides in the monsoon season. The bus from Delhi to Manali can take up to 14 hours and from Chandigarh to Manali is 9 hours at least. Traveling with these people is surely an insanely enthralling experience. This is my second backpacking trip with these people and the way I had imagined backpacking to be has been fulfilled by them and they have given me surely more. The best thing about travelling with these people is that you understand the true meaning of travelling and experience it very closely. You are given great freedom but at the same time taking care of. You participate in the process of backpacking. You have a trip leader with you but he acts more like a friend as the days pass by! We attended the hornbill festival and did a wonderful trek to Dzukuo valley in Nagaland with the leadership of this group. You break the boundaries of yourself when you travel like a true traveller and that is possible with these people.

Sandakphu Trek

I had an amazing trek with Trekmunk to Sandakphu November and December 2019. From the first moment of inquiry about the trek and all my questions were answered clearly and on time thanks to Dheeraj who managed to facilitate the trek quite well with his communication. Our guide Arpan was very experienced, calm, patient and very helpful to each trekker's needs in the group. He facilitated to find and hire a porter for me once I needed one although we were in the middle of the trail. He also arranged emergency transportation when I had to cut the trek and go back home for an urgent matter. I really enjoyed their service and I would like to repeat the same trek or try other treks with them again.
