Brief Itinerary

Detailed Itinerary

Reach the enigmatic, pious and zestful city of Rishikesh either the previous night or early in the morning

to kick start your excursion in time. It is best to leave early from Rishikesh to reach Lohajung just in time

to be able to catch the electrifying and mind-boggling sunset. On an average, it takes approximately 10

hours to reach Lohajung from Rishikesh; you will be covering a distance of 259kms in the mean time.

Interestingly, the term ‘Lohajung’ is actually a merged term consisting of two separate terms namely

‘Lohasur’ and ‘Jung’ which mean ‘devil’ and ‘war’ respectively, and indicate the largely accepted

mythology of the area being the place where the Goddess Parvati is said to have had fought a war with a

devil. Mysterious, interesting stories, mythology and far secluded mountains run parallel most times and

thus, you can expect a lot of stories from localites on your way. Overall, even though the drive from

Rishikesh to Lohajung is long and tiring, on the upside it is smooth, delightful and equally interesting.

You will find yourself fascinated, overwhelmed and excited by the landscapes that you will encounter on

your way, especially after you cross Nainithal. Be prepared to be blown away by the simplistic beauty of

Lohajung upon reaching there. You can stroll around, visit the market and spend some time

communicating with the localites, to spend the rest of your day.

Wake up to a bright, awe-inspiring morning and freshen up for the activities of the day. Proceed to have
a scrumptious and healthy breakfast to buckle up and start with some actual trekking. You will be
trekking from Lohajung to the village of Didna, this day. Didna is located at an altitude of 8,186 ft and
offers a spectacular and astonishing view of the alluring hill steps of the Kulling Valley from the top. The
climb is gradual and very fascinating. On your way, you will have to cross over a landmark iron bridge
called the Raun Bagad after which you will sneak into thick wild forests where you can look out for
interesting, rare species of flora and fauna and have a great time, discovering, observing and
appreciating nature. Up next, you will find the Wan River emerging out of nowhere, spilling and surging
to desperately merge with the Bedni Ganga. As you trek further, you will find yourself reaching closer
and closer to a cluster of countable houses which are nothing but the Didna village altogether. A little
beyond the village is a patch of clearing where most trekkers camp for the night. It is an ideal setting and
offers wonderful, panoramic views of the entire valley. There are many other trails that lead to the
village of Didna but the one mentioned above remains the best of all and unsurprisingly enough remains
the path most taken. Anyhow, whichever path you wish to take, either to explore the valley on your own
or to get rid of crowd and noise, it is best recommended to take trails that encircle the village, to avoid
getting lost and sneaking into unknown wild forests. After covering a distance of approximately 11 km,
you will reach the campsite at Didna in about 5 hours or so. Upon reaching the camps, enjoy the
landscape and catch some rest for the day.

waking up in the mountains. Watch the bright orange colored sun melt in the sky and witness a fresh
batch of adrenaline waves gush in you. Freshen up, proceed to have your delicious breakfast and tighten
your shoe laces to resume the excursion with grit and vigor. You will be trekking from the village of
Didna to Abin Kharak via Ali Bedni Bugyal, this day. As you hike higher, you will be able to catch a clear
sight of the key highlights; the grand twin meadows of Ali and Bedni. It is one of the rarest and most
exquisite views of undulating meadows of all time. The sheer pleasure of being able to witness such
breathtaking scenery cannot be put to words, really. You will be reaching the top of the ridge today
which lies at an altitude of 11,185 ft. A moderately easy trek through dense oak forests will lead you to
the opening of the grand, limitless-appearing, vast meadows. These meadows appear different in
different seasons and switch from snow-smeared landscapes to lush green landscapes from one season
to another. A steady and swift trek through the forests will lead you to Ali Bugyal in not more than 6
hours. After trekking for almost 8.5 km, you will reach the top of the ridge, where you can stroll for a
while and admire the limitless bounty of nature. The sight is truly enigmatic as well as cinematic; a
perfect site for you to make use of your photography skills. After spending some time in the lap of the
meadow, as you trek further you will come across a depression, known as the Abin Kharak where you
will camp for the night. Relax and settle down to grab some good rest.

Admire the surreal, appeasing and dramatic vibes of a beautiful sunrise from Abin Kharak, as you stretch
your arms in the morning. It’s a fresh day and you are super excited for the chain of activities today. Get
some fresh sunlight and quickly proceed to indulge in a delicious breakfast to set your mood straight.

You will be trekking from Abin Kharak to Gehroli Patal via Bedni Bugyal, this day. Bedni Bugyal rests at an
altitude of 11,686 ft which is the highest altitude to be reached on this excursion. 5 km of relaxed
trekking will lead you to the beginning of the much-desired Bedni meadow. It’s a vast, marvelous lush
green landscape which is breathtaking and unbelievably appeasing. There is a good chance for you to
find horses grazing and having a feast by themselves in different corners of the Bugyal. Enjoy the
moment and run free in the wild. The scene is spectacular and a rare sight which is found only in a few,
limited places, elsewhere so spend good time here to admire and relish the magical scenery. As you trek
further, you will come across a sharp descend which marks the end of the Bugyal, beyond which lie
dense forests of oak and rhododendron trees. The ground from here on is steep and is called the Gehroli
Patal. If you are lucky enough you will be able to enjoy a clear sight of Mt Trishul standing tall and aloof
in the backdrop. Gehroli Patal is a beautiful site encircled by wild nature. It is a perfect spot for camping
and relaxing in the realm of nature. It will take about 4 hours to reach Gehroli Patal after which you can
stroll around the place and hike to nearby areas during the latter part of the day. Explore and discover
wilderness and enjoy solitude while you can. A beautiful, soul-stirring sunset, a calm gloomy evening
and starry dark night will be some aspects to look forward to post afternoon. Retire and catch some
sleep later on.

Wake up fresh, relaxed and prepped for the activities of the day. Freshen up and proceed to enjoy a
warm and scrumptious breakfast. You will be trekking from Gehroli Patal to Wan village, today. You will
first reach the Neel Ganga which lies close by. The trail from Gehroli Patal to Neel Ganga is fascinating
and the trek is easy to moderate with not so steep descends which can be covered in 1to 2 hours at
most. It is also one of the most beautiful trails of all time. As you begin to descend, you get a bird’s eye
view of the entire valley and it is truly, an absolutely magical experience. Upon reaching the river, wash
off the dirt and exhaustion of the trek and spend some time by the fresh, crystal clear, cold water of the
river. From here, you are to reach the bottom of the Wan village. There are many routes that can be
taken to trek down. The descend is steep, interesting and thrilling, altogether. This will be the last
stretch to be covered on foot. Make the most out of the opportunity and enjoy the wholesome trek to
the bottom of the village of Wan. Upon reaching Wan, you will be driven to Lohajung village. The drive
from Wan to Lohajung is pleasant and lasts a good 45 minutes covering a distance of 10 km
approximately. Unpack, settle down and relax in Lohajung for the remaining day. You can hike to nearby

areas, enjoy by yourself and spend a good time in the realm of nature before you call off and retire for
the night.

You will wake up to the last sunrise amidst the mountains. Admire and enjoy the surreal, exquisite and
appeasing sunrise and buckle up to check out of the base camp. You will be travelling from Lohajung to
Rishikesh, this day. It is going to be a long day, so you will be checking out of the camps, early in the
morning. Hop onto the allotted vehicles and get ready to experience the last part of the excursion post
which you will find yourself reaching back to the starting point of your trip, bringing the excursion to a
full circle. The distance between Lohajung and Rishikesh is 259km and it takes approximately 11 hours
to reach the same. Drool over the fascinating landscapes that you will encounter on your way back, one
last time and reminisce about the good time that you spent during the excursion. With a few snack
breaks and a lunch break in between, you will most probably reach Rishikesh by 8 pm, post which you
can part your ways from the fellow travelers.

How To Reach

Rishikesh is a popular pilgrim city in Uttarakhand which can be easily reached via various modes of transport. It is best to use public transport to reach the city. You can board a flight to Dehradun and then take a bus or taxi to reach Rishikesh or you can board a flight to the capital of the country and then board a train to reach the city. These are the two most common modes of reaching Rishikesh, although there are many other ways of reaching the city from different states. A quick Google search should be sufficient to help you figure out most things. Since you will leave early from Rishikesh on the first day of your excursion, it is ideal to arrive in Rishikesh, a day prior to the first day of excursion. There are plenty of tourist spots that can be explored and visited in Rishikesh if you reach there well in advance. If you have sufficient time river rafting, visiting the Ganga Aarti Sthal and visiting the Laxman Jhula are some activities that you can look forward to.

I had an amazing trek with Trekmunk to Sandakphu November and December 2019. From the first moment of inquiry about the trek and all my questions were answered clearly and on time thanks to Dheeraj who managed to facilitate the trek quite well with his communication. Our guide Arpan was very experienced, calm, patient and very helpful to each trekker's needs in the group. He facilitated to find and hire a porter for me once I needed one although we were in the middle of the trail. He also arranged emergency transportation when I had to cut the trek and go back home for an urgent matter. I really enjoyed their service and I would like to repeat the same trek or try other treks with them again.

Traveling with these people is surely an insanely enthralling experience. This is my second backpacking trip with these people and the way I had imagined backpacking to be has been fulfilled by them and they have given me surely more. The best thing about travelling with these people is that you understand the true meaning of travelling and experience it very closely. You are given great freedom but at the same time taking care of. You participate in the process of backpacking. You have a trip leader with you but he acts more like a friend as the days pass by! We attended the hornbill festival and did a wonderful trek to Dzukuo valley in Nagaland with the leadership of this group. You break the boundaries of yourself when you travel like a true traveller and that is possible with these people.
