Why does the Chandrashila trek take 2 to 4 days to complete when the distance is only 5 kilometres?

Published On 17 May 2020 by Harshit Patel

Chandrashila Trek is one of the most challenging treks in all of Uttrakhand. At an altitude of 13000 feet, this trek is a year-round adventure. It is full of coniferous and snow-covered vegetative fields. The most famous campsites are the Deoria Tal, Chopta, Tungnath, and the Chandrashila summit. They offer the closest view of nature and aura surrounding the region.

One of the main reasons the trek takes a long time is because it starts from Sari. One has to stop at Deoriatal before proceeding further. From here, reaching Chopta takes time as it is another 14km. The trek to Chandrashila starts from Chopta, and it passes through the Tungnath Temple. Thus, to cover the entire region while going to Chandrashila is quite time-consuming. Moreover, this trek is not an easy one. Therefore, for safety reasons, the trek is usually slow-paced.
