Why aren?t more Indians involved in outdoor sports?

Published On 01 Mar 2020 by Oshank Soni

Indians have recently adopted a sedentary lifestyle. They love to spend time watching television or idling out. Teenagers are much more stuck to their social media lives. They care the most about being online on Facebook or Instagram. Talking about the youth, they succumb to heavy academic pressure. The Indian education system has a vast syllabus and too much competition as India is the second-most populous country in the world after China. It has a whopping population of around 1.3 bn. To secure a seat and make a livelihood, many youths struggle to brush up the academics. This leaves much less time for sports. There are no spaces in the surrounding where people can go for outdoor sports. The cities are congested with buildings and have few parks which are shared by all. There are no dedicated cricket grounds or basketball courts as such. So, Indians are not much involved in outdoor sports. The cultural aspect also plays a huge role. Traditionally, Indians value education more than sports.
