It is absolutely possible to go trekking without any tour package if you have everything properly planned out beforehand with all the reservations done and confirmed. You need to first make a budget and decide the per-person spending and on what and since a local private guide can be expensive, it may alter your budget. Apparently, since Malana is the ending point of the trek, you need to find a local guide from the starting point i.e. Kullu if your budget allows to hire.
